Dear Friend,

I have it from a good source that you love to BBQ. I hear you are
passionate about cooking things low and slow, and like to show off
your skills whenever possible. If this is true, would you take a
moment to read this letter? (Thanks!)

I’d really like you to clear your schedule for April 9 & 10 and come
to Dothan, Alabama, to compete in our BBQ festival. We’ve changed the
date from mid-May to the second weekend of April, to (hopefully)
provide more comfortable weather. We’ve also moved the venue this year
to the Houston County Farm Center, on the east side of the Circle in
Dothan. We’ll provide more details in your welcome packet, but wanted
to let you know of these important changes ASAP.

We’re entering our 5th year here in Dothan for having the Tri-State
BBQ festival, a FBA sanctioned BBQ competition that is also a
qualifier for the Triple Crown, the Jack Daniels Invitational, and, of
course, braggin’ rights in the BBQ world. We’ve given out well over
$45,000 since inception, and offer --- we feel--- a great contest. One
change that we are making in 2010 is more of a focus on YOU, the cook
team.

YOU are the reason this event exists, and we plan on giving YOU the
respect and attention you deserve at the contest this year. Bigger
trophies. Better goody bags. And a good ole Southern-style reception
on Friday night after the team meeting. We’re going back the basics,
and instead of spending so much time on pleasing the spectators we’d
rather please who matters most here… YOU!

Could I ask a favor of you? If you want to come to Dothan in April and
show off your cooking ability, could you return the enclosed team
entry form ASAP? You can post-date your check to March 1st and we’ll
hold on to it until then. But we are trying to get an idea of the
level of participation in 2010, and the new venue has room for only 60
teams (if demand greatly exceeds space, we have a plan ‘B’ site, but
we need to know quickly!)

Thank you for taking a moment to read the letter, and I look forward
to seeing you in Dothan, Alabama in the spring.

Sincerely,

Kerry Farrell
Event Organizer

PS- We will offer the BBQ Boot Camp again on January 16, 2010 for
teams who are new to FBA contests, want to refresh their memory on how
points are scored or just want to compare notes with some of the other
Pro’s..
